Family Support: Places available to local families

Cambridgeshire Mencap provides extra help for parents and carers when and where they need it most.

26/09/2012

Caring for a child or young person with a learning disability can sometimes be hard work. Very often, those with learning disabilities can need extra assistance with those day to day activities that the rest of us take for granted.

Cambridgeshire Mencap provides extra help for parents and carers when and where they need it most by providing a trained volunteer to regularly visit the child or young person (up to 14 years old) and provide practical help to the family. Each family's needs are individually assessed.

A Family Support volunteer can help a child or young person to get out and about and do something they enjoy - from a walk in the park to a trip to the local cinema. Or, they can look after a child or young person at home so that carers can take a well-earned break.

Family Support

Cambridgeshire Mencap Family Support Service currently has places available. To find out how to apply for a volunteer to help you and your family, contact Deborah Nicholson on 01223 883133 or deborah@cambridgeshiremencap.co.uk. Deborah also welcomes calls from potential volunteers willing to offer 4 - 6 hours per month.
