Congratulations to our newly graduated Catering Course students

04/07/2014

All 10 Students attended a presentation day on Tuesday 1st July where they were awarded their certificates by Julie Haynes of Huntingdon Regional College. Three of our students, Philip, Kristal and Oliver, who will be leaving us this summer, received a college certificate in work skills. Greg, who is leaving after 3 years, was awarded a college certificate and an Edexcel Level 1 certificate in Vocational Studies.

Our remaining students, Laura, Katrina, Lawrence, Claire, Joseph and Sarah who are all returning next term also received their awards from Julie.

A great turnout saw friends and family being joined by catering staff from St. Johns College, including Bill Brogan the catering manager and Pastry Chef Tim Robinson. Representing Eddies was Lyn Jenkins, Tandy Harrison and members of the community services team. Also in attendance was Eddie’s patron, Dr Nik Johnson who tweeted;

“Brilliant to be able to give out the awards to all the HRC/St. Johns catering students, Brilliant!”

Once the presentation ceremony was completed guests and students had the opportunity to mingle and enjoy a delicious selection of cakes. Naturally, baked by the students!

The Catering Course at St. Johns is run as a partnership between Eddies, Huntingdon Regional College and St. Johns College, Cambridge. Students work alongside a tutor or LSA in four areas of the catering department, plate wash, kitchen, buttery and Combination Room. The majority of the programme is work based with some classwork to cover knowledge evidence and functional skills. Students also have the opportunity to gain work experience at Fair Shares Café, Churchill College, Cambridge and  Magdalene College, Cambridge.
