Eddie’s Arts Group Needs New Volunteers

17/02/2015

If you want to express your creative side and make new friends why not join us?

Artworks provides an opportunity for adults with a learning disability living in Fenland to be creative and take part in arts, crafts and drama within a supportive and enjoyable environment. The charity is looking for new volunteers to help support the group on Mondays or Tuesdays to have fun and be creative.

The group is designed by the members – for the members. Together the group will decide what type of activities to do and develop their own arts project. There is a chance to try a wide range of creative activities – from painting to paper mache, jewellery making to sewing, even drama and singing! There will also be an opportunity to perform in front of an audience as the group put together two shows each year.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to support group members with different interests, skills and abilities to help each person have an enjoyable session and to achieve something. This could mean supporting someone on a one-to-one basis, potentially assisting them with most tasks, or it could involve overseeing and assisting a group which just needs some encouragement and supervision.

At Eddie’s everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. We work across Cambridgeshire to provide lifelong opportunities for people with learning disabilities to create the lifestyle they choose and be equal and active members of the community.

Artworks runs in March on Mondays and Tuesdays; between 10am-3pm at our dedicated arts center – 88 High Street, March. Volunteers are welcome to help for a couple of hours or for the day; however a regular commitment is essential.

Whatever we do, we love having a great time, making lots of noise and getting as messy as we can!

Together with the Arts Tutor; volunteers will help group members to increase their self confidence and improve their communication skills. It also offers people the chance to socialise, learn to work in a team and build new friendship groups. We provide all volunteers with full training and support, regular volunteer socials and reimbursement of travel expenses.

If you would like to find out more about getting involved with Artworks either as a volunteer or a group member then please contact Suzanne on 01354 651166 or email Suzanne.lombardo@eddies.org.uk.
