Support our Family Support campaign 2015

Family Support Service

Eddie’s is looking to raise £30,000 a year for 3 years to continue the success of its valued Family Support Service.

"Eddie’s Family Support scheme has been irreplaceable support for the whole family and we are very grateful".

“Our Family Support Volunteer is wonderful with our son, she is gentle and encouraging”.

“Our volunteer has had a definite positive effect on our son’s self-confidence, we think she is brilliant”.

“My son & his volunteer enjoy time together on activities of his choice, he's gained so much in terms of emotional well-being & self-confidence”.

“My son says that his Family Support volunteer belongs to our family”.

Eddie’s Family Support service supports family carers of children with a learning disability throughout Cambridgeshire.  Many carers experience some form of emotional and physical exhaustion, financial hardship and social exclusion which can affect the wider family unit.   Eddie’s Family Support Service aims to assist families facing these issues by providing a trained volunteer to spend time with the child, enabling the family carers to take a much-needed break and the child to be given the opportunity to make a new friend, pursue their interests and develop their confidence, self-esteem and independence.

The service is user-led and designed so that the volunteer supports the child to achieve their goal, be that to go swimming or to play in the park, play games, enjoy arts and crafts or watch a film.

Over the past 3 years we have annually supported c45 children and 63 family carers, there are many more families who are waiting for our support, please help us to continue this service!
