The 2nd Cottenham Cub Scouts raise an amazing £214

18/12/2009

A big thank you to the 2nd Cottenham Cub Scouts - As part of their Community Challenge Badge work the Cub Scouts raised 214 for Cambridgeshire Mencap. Cambridgeshire Mencap were presented with a cheque on Wednesday 16th December.

Cottenham Cub Scouts fundraisingAt the beginning of September Akela Sharon Rayment, asked the boys and girls, aged 8 to 10 years to select a local charity that they cared about and challenged them to raise as much money as they could by Christmas. Their fundraising activities have been done with minimal adult supervision and included sponsored walks, bike rides, a sponsored swim, cake stalls and car washing - literally a 'good turn everyday'.

Sharon Rayment, Akela is more than a little proud of the 2nd Cottenham Cubs and said "it is an amazing achievement that the Cubs have all put their heart and souls into this with very little adult help. It shows how much the youngsters care about others and at Christmas too."

The money raised will go towards the furniture and equipment we need at our new respite service The Poplars in Histon. The Poplars will offer short breaks for people with learning disabilities and will replace our existing respite service based in Milton. This house has become too small for the number of people wanting to use our respite care service.
