Darren's marathon effort

Darren successfully ran in the 2010 London Marathon

On Sunday nearly 37,000 runners took to the capital's streets to run the 30th London Marathon. The Virgin London Marathon covers 26.2 miles, passing some of London's most famous landmarks.

Darren Cantell successfully took part in the marathon and raised nearly 900 for Cambridgeshire Mencap. He would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored him, it really helped motivate him to run.

Darren's marathon"The race was very tough! It seemed to start well with the first 6 miles seeming to fly past, but by the 10 mile mark I was starting to struggle, which then left me with a gruelling 16.2 miles to finish. With the help of the great atmosphere and cheering crowds around the course, I managed to dig-in to cross the line in 3 hours 46 minutes. It just goes to show even with the right preparation you can't plan for how you'll feel on the day and how difficult it is negotiating the mass of runners. Although this time was slower than I hoped it was still a great experience".

It is still possible for you to sponsor Darren for the huge effort he put in for Cambridgeshire Mencap go to his page at Virgin Money Giving , it is a secure and fast way of donating online.

All the money raise will go towards supporting local people with learning disabilities, their families and carers.
